The Wedding Cake

Part of the of the many wedding packages included in a wedding reception, the cutting of the cake is considered to be the highlight of that event. Wedding receptions is a traditional event held after the actual wedding ceremony. As with the word "reception", the event is held as hospitality for those who have attended the wedding, hence the name reception: the couple receives society, in the form of family and friends, for the first time as a married couple. The modern practice of wedding receptions today is mostly westernized, particularly with the traditional toast as well as the traditional dance. But most of all, the main feature that wedding packages include in a wedding reception is the cutting of the wedding cake. This cake is typically a simple cake  from a professional baker which is displayed until after dinner. It is tradition that after the toast as well as the dances, the cutting of the wedding cake will follow.
The Wedding Cake A wedding cake is the traditional cake served to the guests at a wedding reception (or in parts of England, at a wedding breakfast) after a wedding. In modern Western culture, it is usually a large cake, multi-layered or tiered, and heavily decorated with icing, occasionally over a layer of marzipan or fondant, topped with a small statue representing the couple. Achieving a dense, strong cake that can support the decorations while remaining edible can be considered the epitome of the baker's art and skill. The average cost of a wedding cake in the U.S. in 2005 was $543.
